SOME INTRODUCTION ABOUT POONDU KULAMBU:

Today, we’re making a super delicious Poondu Kuzhambu, packed with the goodness of garlic and bursting with amazing flavors. The aroma, the rich gravy, and that perfect balance of spice and tanginess will make you want an extra serving of rice! 🤤

Poondu kulambu
Ingredients: - Garlic – 15–20 cloves
- Small onion – 10–15
- Tomato – 3
- Tamarind – small lemon-sized ball
- Sesame oil – 3 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Fenugreek seeds – ¼ tsp
- Curry leaves – 1 sprig
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Chilli powder – 1½ tsp
- Coriander powder – 2 tsp
- Sambar powder – 1 tsp
- Salt – as needed
- Water – as required
- For grinding:
- Grated coconut – 2 tbsp
- Small onion – 5
- Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
- Fennel seeds – ½ tsp
Steps for making poondu kulambu: - Wash and soak the tamarind in warm water and extract the juice keep it aside.
- Heat sesame oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds.
- Then add curry leaves, garlic and small onions. Saute until the garlic turns light golden and gives the aromatic flavour.
- Then add chopped tomato and cook until it gets soft and mushy.
- Once the tomato gets mushy add in the spice powders: turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and sambar powder. Mix well.
- Finally,add the tamarind water, salt and required amount of water.
- Boil for 10 minutes.
- Once, it gets boil add the ground coconut mixture and mix well.
- Let it boil on medium flame until the gravy thickens and the oil starts separating.
- Finally, add a few curry leaves and switch off the flame.
Tips: 1. You should add vegetable like brinjal, drumstick and potato. 2. It goes well with appalam and kootu. 3. Serve poondu kulambu with hot white rice. 4. Pouring the sesame oil makes the good aroma and rice in flavour.
