Introduction about to make sambar podi

Today, we are going to make a traditional homemade Sambar Podi that is super aromatic, flavorful, and easy to prepare.

With just a few simple spices, you can make fresh Sambar Podi at home and use it whenever you prepare sambar. It gives your sambar an amazing aroma, beautiful color, and delicious taste!

Sambar podi contains coriander seeds it helps to provide antioxidants and may support digestion.Cumin seeds are traditionally used to support digestion and reduce bloating. Red chilli – contains capsaicin and antioxidant compounds. Pepper it may support digestion and contains antioxidants.

So, let’s see how to make this homemade Sambar Podi step by step. Let’s get started! 😊

Sambar podi
Ingredients:

  • Coriander seeds – 1 cup
  • Dry red chillies – ½ cup
  • Chana dal – 2 tbsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Fenugreek seeds – 1 tsp
  • Black pepper – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 handful
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida (hing) – ½ tsp
Method:
 1. Heat a pan and dry roast each ingredient separately on low flame.
 2. Roast the ingredients until they become aromatic and good flavour make sure you should not burn the spices.
 3. Afterthat, dry roast allow everything to cool completely.
 4. Then add the roasted ingredients to a mixer and grind into a fine powder.
 5. Finally, add turmeric powder and asafoetida and mix well.
 6. Cool th completely and store it in an airtight container.

Tips:

  1. Always cool the roasted spices completely before grinding and storing. This helps maintain the aroma and shelf life.
  2. For 1 cup of toor dal sambar, use around 1½–2 tbsp of this podi, adjusting according to your taste.
  3. It goes well with sambar or any other thoran / kootu recipe.
