INGREDIENTS FOR MAKING POTATO THOKKU:

 

Oil – 2 tbsp

Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp

Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp

Onion (finely chopped ) – 2

Tomato (finely chopped) – 2

Green chilli – 2

Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp

Boiled potatoes – 4

Water – required

Coriander leaves – few

Curry leaves – few

Red chilli powder – 1 tsp

Garam masala – 1 tsp

Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp

Salt as needed

 

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED FOR MAKING POTATO THOKKU OR POTATO MASALA:

 

  • In a pressure cooker add in 4 potatoes and some water .
  • Cover the pressure cooker and cook for about 4 to 5 whistles.
  • Once it gets done cut it in to small pieces and then keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan , once it gets heated add in mustard seeds and then cumin seeds.
  • Once it turns into crackle add in curry leaves and green chilies .
  • Then add in finely chopped onions and some required salt.
  • Wait for onion gets transparent colour.
  • After that add in finely chopped tomatoes and saute well for about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Then add in ginger garlic paste and cook for about it raw smell goes.
  • After that add in the spices powder like red chilli powder, garam masala, coriander powder and some of the required salt .
  • Then add in the boiled potatoes and add required amount of salt .
  • Give a stir and mix everything.
  • Cover a lid and cook for about 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Once it gets done finally garnish with a fresh coriander leaves , and turn off the flame.
  • Serve potato thokku with sambar rice, curd rice , tamarind rice and lemon rice.

 

MY TIPS FOR MAKING POTATO MASALA:

 

  • If you want to add some green peas you can add it.
  • Adjust spices asper your taste.
  • Serve it with sambar rice and curd rice it tastes good.
  • Adjust water level asper your decision.
  • You can also add baby potatoes instead of normal potatoes
