Rasam means juice . It contains spices garnished with
coriander leaves.it is a traditional south Indian soup it can be used by
different names charu (in telegu), rasam (in tamil), it is made up from the
tamarind and tomato juices. The ingredients contains in rasam are pepper ,
cumin seeds , red chilli etc… which cures severe cold and cough . The origin of
rasam is Madurai. No Indian meals is fulfilled without rasam. It is very easy
to prepare and it favorite to me. rasam contains
95 calories. It can be served with simple poriyal . kootu combination gives a
perfect match . Let’s gets started our receipe.
Ingredients:
Finely chopped Tomato - 4
Black pepper – 1 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Dhaniya – 1 tsp
Garlic – 1
Hing – 1/2 tsp
Red chilli - 4
Curry leaves - 4
Coriander leaves- few
Salt – As Needed
Water - Required
Oil – 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Fenugreek – 1 /2 tsp
Tamarind – 1 lemon sized
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Instructions:
- Soak 1 lemon sized tamarind for 20 minutes.
- After 20 minutes squeeze the soaked tamarind to a pulp.
- Strain and keep it aside.
- In a mixie grinder add black pepper, cumin seeds, dhaniya, garlic, red chilli and blend it to a coarse powder.
- Heat oil in a pan after sometimes add mustard seeds , fenugreek once it gets crackle add hing and curry leaf . once it turns in to crispy add finely chopped tomatoes and cook for 10 minutes.
- After that add grind powder and cook well then add turmeric powder.
- Then add strained tamarind juice, salt , required water and mix well everything.
- Make sure do not over boil rasam ,let it slowly comes to a gentle boil and turn off the flame.
- Finally garnish with coriander leaves.
- Rasam is ready to be serve.
Notes:
- Rasam promotes the removal of toxins.
- Tamarind helps to keep our skin young .
- Rasam is good for weight loss.
- It can be served with poriyal and kootu and some papad.
- We can also add some jaggery in this receipe.
